Week of November 22 The Perfect Prayer

"This, then, is how you should pray

"Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."Matthew 6:9-15 (KJV).

Jesus has given us the perfect prayer to pray each day to help us get ahead of any offenses that may come our way?

In Matthew 6, Jesus teaches His disciples how to pray. The importance of confession and forgiveness. It is times like these when so many of us are walking around the earth holding grudges against others. This unforgiveness we carry becomes a heavy burden stuck in our hearts! Today, is the day to free yourself for all unforgiveness!

My father's presents were sporadic. There would be times when I didn't see him for months or years. I would go about my business as though there was no loss In fact it was a tremendous loss not having him in my life. God gracefully gave my father and I another chance.

In 2010, God called my father home. I remember that morning. The phone was in my hand as I prepared to dial his number. Something we started doing. On the other end was his physician. He calmly shared the passing of my father. I'm so thankful for those two years God gave us to create fond memories.

What if I held onto all those years he was absent in my life? I would have never known his story.

This season what once was normal is not. Traditional gatherings with loved ones. Sitting at the dinner table with all your family and friends. Traveling to see a loved one you haven't seen all year.

Boy, what I would do just to have another day with my father. A day that's fulfilled with us living in the present and not our past. Once we reunited I recognized how much I needed and missed having him around. Thank God for the Lord's Prayer! It afforded me the opportunity to love him and cherish the moments we had until the end.

Give yourself the opportunity to forgive. To free yourself from the hurt, sadness and anger that comes with holding on to a grudge!

Let's Pray:

Lord, thank you for giving us the Lord's Prayer to recite. We are reminded through your Word the power of confessing and forgiving others. Letting go and not holding to something that has the potential to eat at our hearts which causes heaviness and unforgiveness in Jesus name Amen.
