Week of February 9, 2020 Rediscover
Scripture: Genesis 27:19
"And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau thy firstborn; I have done according as thou badest me: arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me."
A Lesson from Esau
Jacob wanted Esau’s birthright. Jacob had wanted something that wasn’t rightfully his. A birthright is the rights or privileges of a family’s first born son after the father passes away. Knowing Esau would not give it to him any other time, he chose the moment after Esau came back from hunting and was weary and hungry. He asked Jacob for some of the stew he had made and Jacob wouldn’t give him any unless Esau sold Jacob his birthright. Esau agreed in order to feed his flesh.
As you seek to rediscover who you are in God. Be mindful of vulnerability. Anytime you are desperate for something or someone. You reveal to that individual that you are doubtful, insecure and lack confidence in who you are. You open yourself to being tricked!!! Esau was manipulated by his younger brother because Jacob valued the benefits of what's to come. He knew their father was dying. Esau was about to inherit a doubt-portion. He couldn't allow that to happen. Jacob waited for the opportunity. Esau didn't see it but God knew it.
You have been tricked, lied to and manipulated by others. Don't hold on to what they've done. Seek God in helping you to let go to live in your purpose. Esau still was blessed because God had plans for his life.
Let's Us Pray:
Forgiving and Merciful Father help me to let go of the things and people who have abused me in my state of vulnerability. I put my trust in them because they knew me. Today, I ask that you forgive them and allow me liberty to be free of the pain associated by their actions in the name of Jesus, Amen. Minister Kim
